Poor balance greatly increases the risk of falls. About 30% of Australians over 65 fall each year, and 50% of those over 80. Falls can lead to loss of confidence, reduced mobility, and loss of independence.
This course aims to improve balance and reduce the risk of these consequences for older adults and all who want to improve their mobility.
WHAT
The Balance Course is a series of simple walking exercises designed to improve balance, coordination, agility, hip and foot strength. Suitable for all ages and abilities.
HOW
Developed by a specialist in functional ageing, Tai Chi, and brain health training, these exercises have been trialed with significant improvements.
Start easy, wear non-slip shoes, and progress at your own pace.
BALANCE COURSE DIRECTIONS
Follow these simple foot-step instructions:
- L = left foot
- R = right foot
- Use arrows to indicate direction of movement.
Remember to focus on your breathing, stay hydrated, and take care in wet or uneven surfaces. Use sun protection when outdoors.
